Fillers are injections to correct folds, provide support to facial tissues against sagging due to gravity/aging and also fill up areas where fat is deficient to give a more refreshed, youthful and vibrant look.
With the latest techniques, it is possible to contour jawline making it sharper, add volume to the cheeks, improve the volume of lips or making the lips voluptuous, etc. Temporary hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used these days and with the correct technique and right product, the results are usually very pleasing and well accepted.
There are some common myths about fillers :
MYTTH#1: FILLERS ARE HARMFUL/CAUSE CANCER
This is a totally false belief arising out of ignorance and misinformation .
Worldover there are companies producing them which are standardised,
certified and approved by authorities like US FDA. One has to be just sure which brand is being used.
MYTH#2: SKIN BECOMES LOOSE/MORE WRINKLES APPEAR ONCE YOU STOP
Another common concern of my patients is that wrinkles/folds will become
worse once they stopped getting the repeat injections. This is not the case and is just a fear/hearsay. They are anti ageing, reduce the appearance of wrinkles/folds and overall defy gravity and ageing process. Skin too needs support with time and with the latest technique of injecting them, we actually provide anchorage at crucial points.
MYTH#3: THE FACE WILL GIVE A PLASTIC OR FROZEN LOOK
Again, this is a technique sensitive procedure. Your doctor needs to tailor your procedure according to your face and expectations.
MYTH#4: FILLERS HAVE SIDE EFFECTS
Usual side effects are minor like redness, mild pain at injection site, bruising in few patients, etc. An experienced plastic surgeon usually is able to avoid most of them and gives the patient a comfortable experience.
MYTH#5: FILLERS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE
Fillers are quite affordable for most simple indications.
A single syringe is usually enough for areas like lips, nasolabials, tear troughs, etc. It all depends on what effect the patient desires.
Anti ageing/lifting procedures require multiple syringes and are more
expensive.
